Second 'Empire Strikes Back' trailer is brilliant

While we still wait for "impending news" on Star Wars: Episode VII, at least the official Star Wars channel over on YouTube continues to keep us entertained with nostalgia. This week, they offer up the second trailer for The Empire Strikes Back and it simply reminds why we loved the original trilogy so much.

In retrospect, this trailer might be considered a bit too spoilerish by today's standards as we get glimpses at each and every beat of the film including Lando's betrayal and the concluding showdown between Luke and Darth Vader. Of course, we may just perceive them as spoilers since we've already seen the film a half million times.

Yoda makes the cut as does a cut scene involving C-3PO ripping a poster down from a door. What doesn't make the trailer is Boba Fett and any mention of Darth Vader being Luke's father, oops spoiler alert. The trailer basically contains more action than the entire prequel trilogy put together and one Wilhelm scream.

That's a whole bucket of win for us right there. Given that J.J. Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan have now taken over the writing duties, I'm not sure how long it will be before we get actual information on the new film, but if they continue to entertain us like this, I won't be complaining. Now, when they run of out original trilogy trailers and start unspooling prequel ones, that's when my patience will run out.
