Even more 'Star Wars' films being planned

Last year, when the big announcement took place that Disney had bought LucasFilm, there was a lot of talk about how Disney wanted to expand the Star Wars universe beyond just a new trilogy of films. There were rumblings of spin-off films and other projects tangentially related to Star Wars.

Well, this week proved that this was all more than simple, idle chatter. We sort of glazed over the potential for spin-offs and focused instead about the new trilogy and Episode VII, which was only a couple of years off.

Since then we've gotten quite a bit of information about Episode VII, but Disney dropped the other shoe this week when they announced that they are already developing spin-off films with screenwriters Simon Kinberg and Lawrence Kasdan. You might recall that Kasdan wrote The Empire Strikes Back.

While Bob Iger didn't divulge any information about what these films would revolve around, there were rumors that a Yoda movie was coming down the pipe. I admit, I groaned at this piece of news because really, who wants to see that? Frankly, the only thing that I even remotely care about Yoda's back story is why he's the only turtle creature left in the galaxy.

I mean seriously, they have long lifespans, so you would think that Yoda wouldn't be the last of his species, right? Also, since he's so old, they could take his story way back to the Old Republic days and that could be interesting, but I think everyone would much rather see a Han Solo or Boba Fett movie first.

Well, if you choose to believe EW then your wish might actually be coming true. They claim to have sources who have told them that the two spin-off films being scripted right now are a young Han Solo adventure and a Boba Fett movie.

With Han Solo, there's quite a rich and fertile ground to ho. There's the back story between he and Lando where he wins the Millennium Falcon. There's the infamous Kessel Spice run. And naturally, the encounter that leads Jabba the Hutt to place a bounty on Solo's head.

Likewise, with Boba Fett, there are plenty of different areas to explore. Even touching on the character (and his father) in the prequel trilogies prove that he's a complicated character that could truly carry his own film. Director Joe Johnston has repeatedly expressed his desire to helm a Boba Fett movie and he has worked with LucasFilm and Kathleen Kennedy in the past.
