Red State will now be Kevin's last theatrical film.

You may have wondered if I still had a pulse these last few months given the lack of reporting on Kevin Smith. Some of that was intentional as we had written a lot about his endeavors, but mostly it was because Kevin was keeping a rather low profile concerning his last film, Hit Somebody.

As is often the case, the low profile wasn't a reflection of no progress being made, but rather that things were taking shape behind the scenes. Last time we checked in, Hit Somebody was supposed to be going from two films back into one.

Today, everything has changed. First, there was this tweet from Kevin where he teased that there was some Hit Somebody news on his latest Jay and Silent Bob Get Old Podcast.

While I certainly recommend listening to the podcast announcement as Kev recounts a hilarious story about Jerry Bruckheimer as only he can, I'll hit the highlights below.

Hit Somebody will now transform from the big screen to the smaller screen. Instead of a film, Kevin is going to release Hit Somebody as a miniseries. He said that the main reason for this is that it would have been nearly impossible to get two hockey films made and he wasn't having much luck trimming the script down to a manageable length.

He credits his hetero life/line mate Jason Mewes with the idea and says that "a network" has agreed to do it and that he expects production to begin next year. He didn't name the network outright as they wanted to have the honors, but it's always fun to speculate.

The obvious choice would be AMC where Smith's Comic Book Men show current airs and where the director recently hosted their "Fearfest" series during the month of October. During the podcast, he also mentioned fellow AMC shows Mad Men and The Walking Dead as further proof that Hit Somebody could work as a TV product.

If you're someone who like to bet on the underdogs, allow me to throw Epix HD out there as a dark horse candidate. Kevin has worked with them before on a few of his standup specials and Epix HD is trying to position itself as a player for more original programming.

While I like the underdogs, if I were laying a bet, I'd take AMC all the way. Time will tell, as it always does. Hit Somebody has been percolating for about four years, so it's also entirely possible that it will find its way back into a feature film.

As always, we'll keep our ears close to the ground and let you know the latest developments as they happen.

Teaser poster for 'Groovymovie' released

While on most weeks, I would take my time and write this little tidbit up in its own article, I thought it might be a little weird to have two Star Trek stories and two Kevin Smith stories back-to-back-to-back-to-back.

Is that even a thing?

Anyhow, while it is true that Kevin Smith is retired from directing movies, he never claimed to be leaving the business entirely. In that vein, we have known for awhile that Jay & Silent Bob's Groovymovie, an animated Jay & Silent Bob tale, has been in the works.

Kevin dropped a teaser poster for it today and released some more cast and release information. Produced by Jason Mewes, Jay & Silent Bob's Groovymovie is going to be four-walled similar to Red State starting in April of next year.

In addition to Smith and Mewes, actors lending their voice to the film include Ralph Garman, Eliza Dushku, Jon Lovitz, Ben Gleib and Neil Gaiman. You can read the full release here.

As for the teaser poster, it's presented in its full glory below.

If the poster is any indication, then it would seem that the animation style of the film will closely resemble what Smith and Groovymovie director Steve Stark have done for the SModCo Cartoon Show and SModimations and not Clerks Uncensored.
