Kevin Smith eyeing a future on Broadway?

I must be losing my street cred as Kevin Smith's biggest stalker, because this little tidbit of news caught me completely off-guard. Of course, it could just be the lack of sleep from spending all of 2011 following him around the country that landed me with a 4 month old child.

Currently, Smith is making his rounds pimping his latest book "Tough Shit" and last night at his Los Angeles stop, he revealed in the Q & A portion of the festivities that he's mulling over the idea of making "Clerks 3" as a Broadway play. Given this is the digital/Internet age, the moment was caught on film and posted to YouTube faster than Walt Flanagan's dog.

Today, Smith confirmed the news via his Twitter account, but don't worry it won't be a musical despite his latest infatuation with "The Book of Mormon" and the musical dance sequence in Clerks II. No, instead it sounds like it will be more along the line of theater of the real with two guys (Dante and Randal) talking shit on stage for 90 minutes or so.

But why listen to me talk about it when you can hear it from the lips of the man himself?

For someone who is "retiring" from film making, Kevin sure does have a bunch of projects brewing. As we broke last year, there's an animated Jay and Silent Bob movie coming called Jay & Silent Bob's Groovymovie, his nascent production company SModcast Picture that is releasing other people's films and of course, his last film Hit Somebody.

And that doesn't even cover his thriving podcast empire and live speaking gigs across the world. As for the Broadway news, it is definitely unique (although Hairspray took a similar route, albeit not with a sequel) and something that I think most fans would embrace.

Of course, the real question is can Broadway handle Kevin Smith's fans?
