It's been awhile since we last covered Kevin Smith (actually it's been 65 days, but who's counting?), but what better day than the day after Red State debuts on DVD and Blu-ray to break some news on an upcoming project?

It's been widely reported that the upcoming Hit Somebody will be the last movie (er movies) that Kevin is directing, but for fans of Jay and Silent Bob all is not lost.

You might remember that back in March we reported that Kevin hinted at two new View Askew related projects that might be in the pipeline, continuation of the Clerks Animated series and an animated Bluntman & Chronic movie produced by Jason Mewes that was going to be released serially on the Internet.

Today, Kevin posted a couple of tantalizing tweets that seem to indicate that something bigger is brewing.

I imagine that at some point in the last few days when Kevin was on the East Coast to promote the Red State release on DVD and Blu-ray (along with SModimations: Season One and Kevin Smith: Too Fat for 40) he met up with hip hop music producer Justin Smith, aka Just Blaze, aka The Megatron Don. Just Blaze posted a pic of the two of them together which Kevin retweeted.

Just Blaze shot back with this little nod to Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back:

@ThatKevinSmith @jensenclan88 I will gladly score ur next movie in exchange for 15 bucks little man, put that script in my hand.

Now, here is where it gets really interesting. Kevin replied back with this tweet:

Via @JustBlaze "I will gladly score ur next movie" May I call on the MegatronDon to help keep the score in a Jay & Silent Bob cartoon movie?

That reply of course got the wheels in my head spinning. Sure, he could be referring to Mewes' Bluntman and Chronic project, but if so, why not call it that? Also, I know that Kevin retains the rights to the Jay and Silent Bob characters (although I'm not too sure about their alter egos Bluntman and Chronic) and enlisting the talents of Just Blaze just felt more like a feature-length film project, so I tweeted a question of clarification:

@ThatKevinSmith Just dropping nuggets and no one seems to notice. Is the J&SB animated movie official? Direct-to-Video?

Kevin replied coyly:

Via @VideoETA "dropping nuggets. Is J&SB animated official?" SModCo & @Phase4Films are working on bringing my dreams (AND yours) to life...

Some of you might recall that Phase 4 Films is the company that Kevin worked with to distribute Red State in Canada. He raved about his experience with them via his Twitter feed and on his daily Internet radio show.

While Kevin doesn't come right out and confirm a feature-length animated Jay and Silent Bob movie, the evidence seems pretty convincing to me. At the bare minimum, his tweets would indicate that he is going to be actively involved with an animated Jay and Silent Bob movie and that he is going to maintain his relationship with Phase 4 Films.

Both of these pieces of news are sweet, sweet music (scored by Just Blaze) to my ears. What do you think about this new development?
