Interactive trailer for 'Iron Man 2' fills in the gaps

If you've seen Tim's story from last week about the new clip from Iron Man 2, then you already know that he's the comic book brains of this entire operation. I, on the other hand, wasn't that much into them growing up, but I am getting a kick discovering them on the big screen.

As a non-comic book geek, my one main complaint from the movies is being unable to fill in the connective tissue between characters or plot points. Many times, I'd come back from watching a comic movie and have to ask Tim to help fill in the gaps.

I know, I know. Just pick up a comic book and discover what I'm missing on my own. And perhaps some day I will, but for now, my life is too hectic.

So, when I saw this new interactive trailer for Iron Man 2 I got excited. This is exactly what a non-comic book geek like myself needs before going in to see Iron Man 2. Basically, as the trailer plays, it triggers a database of sorts of more information. At any point, you can click on the added pieces of the puzzle and return to the trailer later. Or, you can watch the trailer as a whole and then go back to get the important information.

Now, the information is pretty basic sure, but at least going into the theater, I'll have a little bit of knowledge of who Ivan Vanko and Justin Hammer are. Perhaps with this information known, I'll be able to catch more of the wonderful little nuances in the movie that die-hard comic book junkies catch.

Maybe not, but I do know that this is the first real use of this interactive trailer that I've personally run into and I really like the concept. Will it work on the latest Keira Knightley period piece? Of course not, but it will be great for those huge Summer tentpole releases and I can't wait to see how it's used in the future.

What do you think of this interactive trailer? Iron Man 2 hits theaters on May 7.
