The flying car used by the Fantastic Four is set to make its big screen debut in Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, the new movie coming next year. The new look for the car made its debut in USA Today.

In the comics it's known as the Fantasticar (or jokingly referred to as the flying bathtub), the creation of the Fan Four's leader Reed Richards. For the big screen, it has been translated by conceptual artist Tim Flattery. It took him 10 months to create.

He told USA Today that he based the design on the look of manta rays and stingrays. "They have a natural flow and grace. We wanted something that looked like it could glide as easily as they do," Flattery said.

Flattery previously re-designed the Batmobile for 1995's Batman Forever. The Fantasticar first appeared in 1962, in issue number three of the comic.

Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer will be in theaters June 15, 2007.
