Pregnant Mirjana returns to her Croatian village from Germany at the end of the Balkan wars. Her family, mortified that she does not have a husband, enlists the aid of the local Mafioso to marry her off. Mirjana steadfastly refuses to submit to their matchmaking. A tenuous truce is struck between them -- until she gives birth to an Asian baby.
