After a heavy bout of drinking, Colonel Gifford sells a parcel of land to crooked speculator Wolf Hines for $5,000. The Colonel's foreman, Bob Drake, "The Colorado Kid," attempts to escort his intoxicated boss home with the cash, but is fired and sent on his way. Riding alone, the Colonel is bushwhacked and murdered by Hine's gang. Drake is framed for the crime, convicted and sentenced to hang. The Colorado Kid must escape, in order to bring the Colonel's killers to justice.
Bob Steele, who was born Robert Bradbury, Jr., starred in dozens of cowboy pictures. Unlike many of his fellow western stars, Steele routinely broke free of the genre, notably playing Curly in the 1939 classic Of Mice and Men.
