Reenlisting to serve in Korea, Master Sgt. Danny Young (John Hodiak) launches a second front when he discovers the Red Cross nurse (Linda Christian) he once dated is engaged to fellow combat photographer Sgt. Mitch Turner (Stephen McNally). Their rivalry, however, is soon put aside when they volunteer to gather intelligence from deep behind enemy lines. Accompanied by a squad of Marines, Young and Turner infiltrate the north as they battle the Reds on a perilous mission from which they may never return. Featuring early appearances by Martin Milner, Jack Larson and Charles Bronson, Battle Zone was written by Steve Fisher, whose original story for Destination Tokyo earned him a 1943 Oscar nomination. One of the few pulp writers to make a successful transition to the screen, Fisher was responsible for the classic noirs I Wake Up Screaming, Dead Reckoning and Lady in the Lake as well as episodes of Combat!, Cannon and dozens more.
