Mr. Lobo arrived on the scene with his show Cinema Insomnia over 18 years ago. In the tradition of those classic horror shows like Chiller Theatre and Creature Features, host Lobo appears in brief vignettes between segments of the "late late night movie." Various colorful characters have appeared over the show's 18-year run – including a houseplant named Miss Mittens, and the Queen of Trash, a curvaceous punk rocker partial to corsets. There are even satirical commercials, like ones for "Rad Adams: Skateboard Attorney" and "Discount Seafood Warehouse." Cinema Insomnia has been seen in hundreds of television and cable markets, and Lobo continues to be a regular guest at conventions including Wondercon and Monster Bash. He was even parodied in an episode of Scooby-Doo. Known as an advocate for "Bad Movies", Mr. Lobo lives by the motto, "They're not bad movies...just misunderstood."

On June 8, 2019, Mr. Lobo hosted a one-of-a-kind event - a live version of Cinema Insomnia filmed before a sold-out audience at the Bal Theater in San Leandro, California! For this special occasion, he picked a particularly bad (i.e., misunderstood) movie to show...the Fifties sci-fi juvenile delinquent "classic" Teenagers From Outer Space! It's the story of Derek, the mopey, unimaginatively named prince of an unspecified alien planet, who comes to Earth to learn about such foreign concepts as dogs, swimming pools, and girls with Bettie Page haircuts. When Dad comes looking for his son with an invasion fleet in tow, Derek must shake off his Prozac-induced stupor to save his new home. It's a lot like Rebel Without a Cause, if James Dean spent the movie on the verge of a coma and used toy ray guns from the neighborhood five and dime. In addition to the usual retro-style commercials and old movie trailers, Lobo pulls out all the stops for this special live episode, including the first new appearances in many years of Cinema Insomnia mainstays "Rad Abrams: Skateboard Attorney" and Sara "The Queen of Trash" Dunn! There's also a hilarious "Cooking with Mr. Lobo" skit that will make you lose your appetite for months! It's an experience "Cinema Insomniacs" will never forget!
