Principal Cast

Edmund Lowe plays David Chase, a famed newspaper columnist and amateur detective who matches wits with those who would take the law into their own hands, in this rare TV series! Front Page Detective aired for two years on the DuMont Network (1951-1953). Unlike most of the programs on the network, it was shot on film. The show's storylines were drawn from the popular pulp magazine of the same name, known for its lurid covers of scantily-clad women. Star Edmund Lowe is most famous as the character of Sergeant Henry Quirk in the silent war comedy What Price Glory? (1926) and its three sequels. In the sound era, he memorably appeared in Dinner at Eight (1933) where he played a doctor having an affair with Jean Harlow. Despite the fact that Lowe was in his early sixties at the time of Front Page Detective's filming, the producers had no compunction about pairing him with shapely B-movie actresses half his age, like Ann Savage (Detour) and Alix Talton (The Deadly Mantis).

GOLD VENOM: A gold-plated cobra is an object of intrigue for several underworld figures.

LITTLE MISS FORTUNE: Chase's eight-year-old niece arrives in the city with a million dollars in her suitcase.

CLEAN SWEEP: A dope pusher Chase once sent to jail wants revenge.

THE MURDERER IS ANONYMOUS: After a sniper takes a potshot at Chase, he combs the city looking for the culprit - only to find a menagerie of suspicious characters who want him dead.
