1850s San Francisco: Sheriff Mathew Wayne (Richard Coogan) risks his life to keep the peace: an 1854 wedding leads him to bank robbery suspects, bandits terrorize travelers, Russian fur traders fight for markets, human trafficking of Chinese laborers, protecting the innocent from the criminals lured in by the prospect of gold and his duty to insulate the vulnerable citizens from the wiles of heart-breaker Lola Montez (Patricia Medina). All this and much more add up to an action-packed second season.
