Young Danny Baker is sent to live with his cruel uncle Matt Hodgkins, after a tragic auto accident claims the lives of his parents. En route to his uncle's farm he adopts Shep, an abandoned German Shepherd, and the two become fast friends. When Danny arrives, he realizes that both he and Shep are unwanted. After months of brutal treatment at the hands of his uncle, Danny and Shep run away. On the road, they befriend a homeless Spanish-American War veteran, Carter J. Latham, and the three begin to build a new life in the woods. But when the news becomes public that Danny Baker is the heir to a fortune, the unwanted boy becomes the focus of one of the largest manhunts of all time.
This heartwarming Golden Gate Pictures production stars Lanny Rees as young Danny and William Farnum in a typically stellar performance as fellow cast-off Carter Latham. The strong supporting cast features Al St. John, Tom Neal, Russell Simpson, Sarah Padden and Si Jenks.
