A tragic accident leaves acclaimed Broadway director Julian Forbes paralyzed, compelling him to put his planned marriage to young actress Linda Marsh on permanent hold. The couple remain devoted to each other as Linda's stage fame soars and the wheelchair-bound Julian watches adoringly from the wings. But over the years, Linda's physical yearnings - for intimacy and for motherhood - remain unfulfilled. Knowing his paralysis is keeping Linda from true happiness, Julian considers making the ultimate sacrifice in the name of love.
Beautiful, English-born Frieda Inescort gives a riveting emotional performance as a woman whose heart is torn by deeply conflicted desires. Today she is best remembered by film audiences as Merle Oberon's competition for Lawrence Olivier's affections in 1940's Pride and Prejudice. Dignified Otto Kruger had a long and prolific career as a character actor in such great films as Saboteur (1942), High Noon (1952), and Magnificent Obsession (1954).
