Mariah Carey thought the worst of the last year was behind her but now she's singing a different tune. The pop diva was dropped by EMI in an effort to cut costs as the company fears a huge decrease in sales this year.

EMI made history when they signed Mariah to their Virgin Records label with the largest recording contract of all time, with a close to $85 million four-album deal. After her first album, 'Glitter', sold a diminutive 2 million copies, the company began panic-ridden talks to cut her loose.

Mariah didn't walk away completey empty handed though. EMI bought her out for $28 million. Her career may seem to be fading, but she still remains one of the top selling artists of all time.

As one music analyst put it, "The irony is Carey will probably go under another label and come out with a huge hit."
