Denzel Traded AFI Awards For Football Game

Denzel Washington was a no-show at the American Film Institute’s Awards this weekend because he was filling a much more important role, the good dad.

The Training Day star traded in his tuxedo and round table for stadium seat in San Antonio, Texas. Even though Denzel won the Best Actor award, he couldn’t miss his son JD play in the East vs. West All-American college football final.

He’s missed most of JD’s season due to filming commitments, but does what he can to support his son. He even had his wife call and talk through the plays over the phone.
