'Moulin Rouge' And 'A Beautiful Mind' Lead Golden Globe Noms

Musical Moulin Rouge and drama A Beautiful Mind lead the 2002 Golden Globe nominations with six each.
The Nicole Kidman/Ewan McGregor starrer was nominated for Best Picture, Best Actress for Kidman, Best Actor for McGregor, Best Director for Baz Luhrman, Best Original Score and Best Original Song.
The drama from Russell Crowe and director Ron Howard was nominated for Best Picture, Best Actor for Crowe, Best Supporting Actress for Jennifer Connelly, Best Director for Howard, Best Screenplay for Akiva Goldsman and Best Original Score.
The Golden Globe Awards are presented by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and are second only to the Academy Awards in prestige. They also feature separate categories for Dramas and Musicals or Comedies in the top awards which differs from the Oscars. The HFPA also presents awards to the television industry.
Other highlights include four nods each to Lord Of The Rings: Fellowship Of The Ring and Mulholland Drive, dual Best Actress nominations for Nicole Kidman (the other was for her performance in thriller The Others) and dual Best Actor nominations for Billy Bob Thornton (comedy Bandits and drama The Man Who Wasn't There) as well as an unexpected but well-deserved Best Actor nomination for Will Smith's Ali portrayal.
