Hey, look, it's still Monday and there's a new Mixer. Are you shocked? I know that I am.

It's been a busy couple of weeks, but I'm trying to get back on schedule as best that I can. This weekend was a crazy one as the emphasis was mostly anywhere but the box office. When it's Super Bowl weekend, anything can and will happen and this year is no exception.

In case you missed it, I ranked all of the movie ads shown during the Super Bowl. As for the other commercials, they were all sort of meh and very few stood out. This is a shame because given the reality that we live in, this is pretty much the only time that people are actually watching commercials, so it's a bit of a bummer that they failed to live up to expectations.

Box Office 411

Kung Fu Panda held off all newcomers to take the crown for the second consecutive weekend. This weekend, the animated family film took in another $21 million to push its box office total up to $69 million. The film is still on track to finish with $150 million thanks mainly to a genuine lack of competition from other family films.

The Coen brothers returned to the big screen with their latest opus Hail, Caesar! Unfortunately for them, it only took in $11.4 million, which is less than every other Coen brothers movie to open on over 1,500 screens. I think it's a film that was hit hard by the Super Bowl, so we will know for sure where it will end up after next weekend.

Valentine's weekend is usually a pretty robust one at the local megaplex, so this upcoming weekend should be interesting. Can Deadpool make some big noise, or just do so-so? Either way, I think Hail, Caesar! will enjoy a nice bounce back weekend. I'm still holding out for a $45 million total.

The other newcomers The Choice and Pride and Prejudice and Zombies battled for fifth place with the latest Nicholas Sparks adaptation winning out barely with its $6.1 million opening. Meanwhile the genre-bender Pride and Prejudice and Zombies eked out $5.2 million and will struggle to make it to $20 million.

Quick Hitters

Elementary, my dear Mixer.
