We've had movies based on board games. We've had movies based on video games. We have even had movies in which video games were the bad guys. But, I'm pretty sure that Angry Birds will be the first film based on a mobile application game.

You remember Angry Birds, right? It was that cute and addictive game that we all played on our phones about three years ago. The concept was simple, you were in charge of an arsenal of birds that would attack and destroy encampments created by their evil nemeses the green pigs.

It was simple, yet challenging, as the levels got more intricate and complex. At the height of the Angry Birds craze Sony took a gamble on the franchise and gobbled up the game's film rights. At the time, I was skeptical at best and downright appalled at times. I mean seriously, how do you turn a game of birds fighting with pigs into a movie?

Well, today we finally got some answers with the film's first trailer. It seems that I might be more on the pleasantly surprised side when things shake out next May. The voice cast is amazing and there does seem to be a potential to grow the storyline organically. There wasn't much in the way of plot development here, but I can see plenty that my young kids will enjoy when it hits theaters on May 20, 2016.
