We all pretty much knew this was coming, right? It's 2015, the year in which Doc Brown and Marty travel to in Back To The Future, Part II, so it would only make sense that Universal would release a special 30th Anniversary edition of the films.

Well, our patience has finally paid off.

No, we don't have flying cars, hover boards or auto-sizing clothes, but we do have a new 30th Anniversary edition of the Back to the Future films to get excited about. Or do we?

First, I'll let Doc Brown do the honors.

That's right, not only can you own the 30th Anniversary edition of the films on Blu-ray (SRP $49.98) or DVD (SRP $39.98), but there's a new Complete Adventures collection that includes the films and the Complete Animated Series. Oh yeah, the Complete Adventures collection also comes in a light-up Flux Capacitor package.

The suggested retail price of Back to the Future: The Complete Adventures is $99.88 for the Blu-ray and $88.88 for the DVD.

According to Universal's release, here is what is included in the Back to the Future: The Complete Adventures collection.

  • Back to the Future Blu-ray
  • Back to the Future Part II Blu-ray
  • Back to the Future Part III Blu-ray
  • Back to the Future: The Complete Animated Series DVD (26 Episodes)
  • All-new Bonus Disc featuring over 2 hours of content

So, what exactly are you getting for that extra $50 for the Back to the Future: The Complete Adventures? Well, it seems that you are paying for the Flux Capacitor packaging, the 64-page book and the Back to the Future: The Complete Animated Series. Back to the Future: The Complete Animated Series will retail for $49.98, so if you are a completist and actually enjoyed the animated series, then Back to the Future: The Complete Adventures would be for you.

If, like me, you purchased the 25th Anniversary edition on Blu-ray a few years ago, then you will have to decide if the new features on the Disc 4 above, the book and the packaging is worth the second investment. Otherwise, the first three discs of the collection are exactly the same here as the previous version.

I will admit that the set does look pretty impressive. These will street on October 20 according to Universal's site, despite the video above claiming an October 21 street date.
