Despite the popularity and success of Searching for Bobby Fischer, the chess champion was not featured in the film and actually despised the film for using his name without his permission. In fact, there have been no proper films released on the troubled chess prodigy, that is until now.

Tobey Maguire is portraying Fischer in the upcoming film Pawn Sacrifice and it looks like the film is going the route of other recent films about troubled geniuses. Last year's awards darlings The Theory of Everything and The Imitation Game combined historical drama with thrilling scenes to create compelling stories that brought the historical figures to life.

Bobby Fischer was a brilliant chess mind who became a recluse later in life and butted heads many times with the United States. Eventually his passport was revoked and he spent time in a Japanese prison before being granted citizenship by Iceland, where he lived the remainder of his life.

I've never been much of a Tobey Maguire fan, but it looks like he really brings the complicated character of Bobby Fischer to life. Pawn Sacrifice will debut in theaters on September 18.
