Johnny Depp is sinister in 'Black Mass' trailer

When I opted to include Black Mass in my list of sleepers for this year, I was pretty sure that this film will be a huge hit based on its top-notch cast and popular subject matter. I made this prediction before seeing a single image or footage from the film, but now that I've seen the trailer below, I think it's safe to say that the inclusion was definitely worthy.

I'm a huge Johnny Depp fan and I think his best attribute as an actor is his chameleon-like ability to lose himself in his roles. Playing real-life mobster Whitey Bulger, it's pretty clear that Depp has another winning role on his hands here. The best word that I can use to describe it is sinister. If this is any indication of what we can expect from him in the rest of the film, this one has the rare ability to be an early awards contender.

I don't throw this compliment around often, but this scene reminded me of Goodfellas. Yeah, it's that good. Black Mass is set to hit theaters on September 18.
