One of those unspoken "perks" of having kids is a seemingly unending battery of doctor visits. If they aren't getting some sort of nasty disease from school, day care or the like, it's time for the 8.25 monthly wellness check.

I'm convinced that this overzealous schedule of doctor visits is just yet another in a long line of ways in which healthcare companies have conspired to rob us all blind. That or it's an ingenious failsafe against bad parenting.

It is the latter (wellness check for my son) this morning that has delayed this MM so much and it's bound to be the reason that this MM will be sadly short. Thankfully, the shortness is not a reflection of his progress as his 33 inches proudly places him in the 63 percentile. Sure, he's not going to be playing basketball for my alma mater Butler anytime soon, but maybe he'll eek out a living playing hockey somewhere.

Speaking of March Madness, it's my favorite time of the year as one of the greatest spectacles in sports revs its engines yet again. Sadly my team got a bad draw, which is to say that they are in the same boat as anyone not named Kentucky so it won't be as fun to watch as say a couple of years ago, but it's still a fun weekend to be had for sure.

Let's get right into it, shall we?

Box Office 411

Oh man, it's a Disney world and we are just living in it this year, eh? What with a new Avengers film, a new Star Wars film and two Pixar films on tap for later this year, it's pretty much a given that Disney will rule the roost at the box office in 2015. What I never predicted was that they would also have a huge hit on their hands in their own coffers.

But that's precisely what they have with Cinderella. I predicted it would break $100 million at the box office and it almost eclipsed that mark in its initial weekend with $70 million. It's safe to say that Cinderella is virtually guaranteed to top $200 million and with a lot of sports-minded people watching basketball the next few weekends, you have to think that the family-leaning film will do quite well. I'm going to go out on a limb and say it will take in $250 when it's all said and done.

This is also the part of the MM where I eat a good amount of crow. Despite us having Cinderella on our top 15 box office films of 2015, that was on the strength of Tim and Dannette's confidence in the film. I was firmly unimpressed with its box office potential and I was terribly wrong. Regardless, a good year for Disney gets even better with Cinderella's performance.

In other news from this weekend's box office, is it time that we officially put a fork in Liam Neeson's action career? His latest actioner Run All Night limped home with a measly $11 million in its first outing. I think his action career was interesting, but no amount of Viagra is going to save it at this point.

That's really about it when it comes to this weekend's box office efforts.

Quick Hitters

  • As we are pressed for time, I'll only regale you with one quick hitter, but it's a doozy. Friend of the site Kevin Smith updated people on his upcoming slate of films and there was at least one very surprising inclusion.

The end of that tweet seems to indicate that he's planning on a sequel to Mallrats. When I saw this my mind was flooded with questions. What's it going to be? Who will be back? Will they still be in a mall despite malls being mostly irrelevant in today's society? Here's a salty answer to at least one of those questions from the man himself.

I find it's always best to leave right after a stink palm, so until next time, Mix Well!
