Check out the fabulous art from Brent Schoonover's 'Horror Movie Viewing Guide'

Until recently, I never really enjoyed horror movies. Life is too short and I'd rather be entertained with a comedy. That was my misguided approach until I found a significant entry point to all those scary movies.

I found an opening via my lifelong passion for art. Specifically, comic book art. There's a vast world of horror comic book art. Tremendous stuff from all-time great artists like Jack Davis and Steve Ditko to creators like Bernie Wrightson and Frank Frazetta who are icons within the horror comic genre.

I stumbled upon the work of modern artist Brent Schoonover on Instagram. His style has such a retro feel that it melds well with the aforementioned masters. Each day in October, Schoonover has been posting an illustration for his "Horror Movie Viewing Guide." The images are tremendous but also serve as a road map to some great and often under-appreciated horror movies.

Schoonover will unveil the final movie tomorrow on Halloween. I can't wait to see what it is. That's also when you'll be able to order an 11x17-inch print showcasing all his viewing guide illustrations. He did another horror guide illustration last year with all-different movies. It's for sale in his shop as well.

I plan to visit more than one of Brent's horror movie selections on Halloween night and beyond.
