It's no secret that I have a "bromance" or "man-crush" or whatever the current slang is with Kevin Smith. I'm pretty sure it's one-sided, although the last time I saw him, he did give me a great bear hug and really made me feel special.

No really, he did. I have proof.

OK fine, it's a little blurry. You'll have to trust me.

And that's really the special power Kevin Smith possesses. He is every bit a superhero just like Batman or Superman, but his special power is camaraderie. He has a gift for remember people and making them feel special. This electric personality speaks volumes about his success and how he is still able to fill theaters across the country with his "Evening With" programs.

Exactly twenty years ago from today, his first film Clerks debuted in theaters. Think about that for a minute. My first thought is, "damn, I'm old." My second thought is that there is absolutely no way that I can possibly put into words just how much that film and Kevin himself has influenced my life. Hell, my first child was conceived on his Red State tour, mere hours after that picture above was taken.

I know, too much information, but that's how much my life has been impacted by the release of this film. Again, my words can't even come close to expressing my gratitude, and yet, maybe they can.

It dawned on me that I've written quite a few articles over the years about both Clerks and Kevin Smith. It also dawned on me that we have a new feature on the site that few people know about. You can actually see every news story in which any given film is mentioned by clicking on the "News" tag on each main movie page. For instance, if you want to see every story in which we've mentioned Star Wars simply click here.

So, I decided that I'd simply honor Clerks by showing you just how many words I have spent talking about it. What you see below is every story that we have ever written on the site that mentions Clerks.

That's a whopping 48 stories, including this one. I would show all of the stories in which I mention Kevin Smith but considering that is currently numbers 230, I don't think I'd be able to keep your attention for very long.

Happy Birthday Clerks! Next year, you'll actually be able to buy alcohol.

Workplace comedies almost always work -- no pun intended. There's just something about the office setting and boss/employee dynamic that makes it perfect for laughs. Directors. They are often the unsung heroes of a movie, or the very reason we enter the theater in the first place. Some directors are nameless, faceless beings that fill a necessary role in a movie's production.
