Tonight, the NFL officially kicks off the 2014 season and what better way to show our respect for a game that is as much about America as, well, apple pie and baseball, than to showcase some of the best trailers for films based on that sport.

It's a Throwback Thursday, football style and we hope these trailers get you hyped up for tonight's game and the rest of the slate over the course of the weekend.

Rudy (1993)

The ultimate underdog film. This is why sports films are so great.

Knute Rockne, All American (1940)

Keeping the Irish spirit alive, which is ironic given that they play my beloved Wolverines this weekend. I hope they don't win one for the Gipper this weekend.

Brian's Song (1971)

Prepare the waterworks. Even the trailer gives me the sniffles.

All The Right Moves (1983)

Before Tom Cruise was Tom Cruise, he was a cool actor and then something went wrong.

Jerry Maguire (1996)

Thirteen years later, Tom Cruise was something different. Perhaps he was saying "Show me the money" too much.

Wildcats (1986)

The boys aren't the only ones having fun on the gridiron. One of Goldie Hawn's best roles ever.

Necessary Roughness (1991)

"Blow the whistle. Blow the whistle."
