I've been work quite a bit lately on my promised article about movie quotes. It's becoming quite a mammoth article. In the midst of my research, a colleague sent me this video. It's equal parts hilarious and depressing.

All Out of Bubble Gum's Stéphane Bouley posted this recut trailer for Monty Python and the Holy Grail. He re-imagines the classic 1975 film as a modern-day epic.

If you've seen the original cult classic, you know this is not at all the tone of the film. It's a plodding comedy that turns silly satire into an artform. Bouley's video is meta in the sense that he's taken this old comedy and used it as a satirical device to illustrate the (arguable) sad state of movie blockbusters.

This 'Grail' is filled with Michael Bay-loving explosions, action one-liners and quick cuts. All emblematic of modern film fare.

A movie like Monty Python and the Holy Grail would never be made today. It seems downright certifiable in comparison to modern fare -- and that's precisely why it's so beloved.

Plus it's one of the kings of movie quotes. Nearly forty years after its release, I doubt a day goes by that someone somewhere makes reference to a line from the movie. See if you've heard any of these lately:

"We are the Knights who say... NI!"

"Bring out yer dead."

"I don't want to talk to you no more, you empty headed animal food trough wiper. I fart in your general direction. Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries."

"You must cut down the mightiest tree in the forest... with... a herring!"

"It's just a flesh wound."

"Come and see the violence inherent in the system. Help! Help! I'm being repressed!"

"There are some who call me... Tim."

As someone named Tim, I both use and hear this quite a bit.
