The 1992 thriller Basic Instinct starring Michael Douglas and Sharon Stone will be re-released as a DVD special edition with stunning extras.
For starters, the disc is packaged in a limited edition, clear plastic case that looks just like ice. Also included in the case is a ice pick that's really a pen -- of course it includes blood red ink.
For the special edition DVD itself there are several bonus materials not available on previous releases:
- Commentary from director Paul Verhoeven and director of photography Jan De Bont
- Extra footage that was too explicit for the theatrical release of the film
- "Cleaning Up Basic Instinct", a feature that compares the original theatrical version to the edited version that appears on broadcast TV (the most unique and neatest feature we've heard of on a DVD)
- "Blonde Poison", a documentary on the making
- Dolby Digital audio 2.0 (English)
- Dolby Surround audio 5.1 (English)
- 16:9 Remastered widescreen
This special collection will be released Sept. 18 and will have a suggested retail price of $26.98. It will be available in both rated and unrated versions.
