First 'Hangover 3' poster evokes 'Harry Potter'

I get it.

Both The Hangover Part III and Harry Potter are Warner Bros. films, but I just don't understand why of all of the possible posters to spoof, the marketing department at Warner Bros. chose Harry Potter. In fact, I'm pretty sure that upwards of 90% of the film's target audience didn't even put one and one together to realize that the poster is a spoof.

Thankfully, that's why we're here.

I was just ruminating on Twitter the other day that it's a bit odd that we haven't seen a single poster or trailer for The Hangover Part III, especially since, you know, it hits theaters in May. By sheer coincidence I found myself on a Warner Bros. home entertainment conference call that same day and they had a poster for the film as part of their PowerPoint presentation.

While naturally like any good reporter, I captured a screen shot of said poster, but I don't feel comfortable sharing it with the world given the circumstances under which I came across it. Needless to say, it doesn't come close to the poster released below, which, as far as I can tell, is the first poster released by Warner Bros. for The Hangover Part III.

I described the poster on Twitter.

Instead, what we got today was something that closely mirrored this poster from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2.

As you can see below, Zach Galifianakis and Ken Jeong take the roles of Harry and Voldemort respectively while Vegas burns to the ground behind them. They even steal the same tag line, "It all ends."

I don't know about you, but I would love to see The Hangover Part III end with Vegas burning to rubble. I've never seen that on screen and I think it would be a fitting way to end the franchise.

And what about the post-credits scene? Why it should be Mike Tyson riding his tiger like a phoenix rising from the ashes of Sin City. Damn, I should really write screenplays.

The Hangover Part III hits theaters on May 24 and we've yet to see a trailer, or anything for that matter other than this poster above and a few stills here and there. I'm hopeful though that the gang will finish this franchise out on a high note. What do you think?
