Believe it or not, the 85th Academy Awards will be handed out this weekend. It seems like this year's ceremony has really crept up on us, more so than in the past.

It's too bad, because we always have grand plans of doing so much more and we always end up scrambling. Well, one thing we always do is our live tweet of the event and that is set to start on Sunday sometime around 7:00PM Eastern with a red carpet review.

If you're like us (and we're pretty sure that you are), then this is a big time event on your calendar. Nelson Carvajal over on Vimeo created a nifty retrospective that captures all of the Best Picture winners from the first 84 shows and a glimpse at the possible winners on Sunday.

Not only is this video a great primer for this weekend's festivities, but it's also a great study in American film and how it has changed over the years. I've watched it a couple of times now and each run through, I focus on something different. I looked at the themes of the movies and how they change and then come back to the same things.

I also focused on the advancements in technology. From black & white to color, from film to digital to high definition. It really makes you wonder what the next 85 years has in store for American cinema.

As to which film I think will take home the coveted prize on Sunday, I'm betting on the Ben Affleck snub factor and I think Argo will take home the top prize. This is actually an odd year in which I've seen four of the nine films nominated for Best Picture already, so I think I have a pretty good idea on how this one will pan out.

Of course, no one really knows what the Academy is going to do, now do they? Enjoy the video below and we'll see you on Sunday!
