So, the Mayan 2012 phenomenon was a lot of fun, wasn't it? When December 21 came and went without nary a dust up, today became inevitable.

Boxing Day.

What is Boxing Day you ask? Personally, I like to think of it as the yin to Festivus' yang. Great Feats of Strength taken literally in a myriad of events celebrating all that is good about pugilism.

Sadly though, according to Wikipedia, Boxing Day is traditionally the day after Christmas "when servants and tradesmen would receive gifts from their superiors." So, it's the "Regifting Holiday," cool.

Having French Canadian ancestry in my family, I always knew it as the day you "boxed up" your unwanted presents and returned them to the store for things that you did want. Interestingly while this holiday is usually just another excuse to shop (think of it as the second "Black Friday"), the holiday has not been adopted here in the United States.

While we wait for Congress to deal with that little fiscal cliff business, so they can get to important things like establishing this day as a national holiday and mandating a meal of poutine (Mmm. Poutine.), I figured it would be fun to compile a list of 10 must-see boxing movies.

Here they are in no particular order.

Rocky (1976)

Raging Bull (1980)

The Fighter (2010)

Cinderella Man (2005)

Million Dollar Baby (2004)

Girlfight (2000)

Ali (2001)

Requiem for a Heavyweight (1962)

The Harder They Fall (1956)

The Hurricane (1999)
