Rumors abound for comic book movies

I would say that in the world of movie rumors, there are currently three large areas of concentration. You have Marvel and the upcoming Avengers sequel, DC's response in the form of the Man of Steel and the eventual Justice League of America film and naturally all of the scuttlebutt to do with the new Star Wars films.

If I might add one series of films that it flying a bit under the radar at the moment, but is set to dominate the box office for the next five years or so, it would be the X-Men movies. We've chatted a bunch lately about Star Wars, so I thought I'd check in with some latest rumors concerning the other franchises.

First up, X-Men: Days of Future Past director Bryan Singer took to Twitter to confirm the worst-kept secret in Hollywood.

Given that the story of X-Men: Days of Future Past deals with a storyline that bounces back and forth between the present and the future, this is hardly Earth-shattering news. But, that wasn't the only news he passed on today.

Again, nothing that we really couldn't speculate on given the tremendous success of X-Men: First Class, but it's always nice to get the official word on casting. It's also good to see Jennifer Lawrence listed as officially returning. I was wondering if they were going to run into any shooting conflicts with her Hunger Games films.

Given Hugh Jackman's hilarious cameo in X-Men: First Class and the plot of X-Men: Days of Future Past, the logical assumption is that he'll also be in X-Men: Days of Future Past, but nothing has officially been said yet one way or the other.

In news on the Justice League of America front, there was a brief tremor on the Internet this morning when HitFix reported that one of their sources claimed that it is a fact that Joseph Gordon-Levitt will don the Batman suit in Justice League of America. Author Drew McWeeny then goes on to speculate that we might see JGL as Batman in a cameo in Man of Steel.

According to Hollywood.com, they reached out to JGL's reps and they vehemently denied that he would be involved with either movie. Of course, what else could they say at this point?

If he is going to have a cameo in next Summer's Man of Steel, I think Warner Bros. is going to try their hardest to keep it under wraps for as long as they can.

With all of these comic book films converging at the megaplexes, one has to wonder if the audience will start to sour on them. Given the expense and the huge lead time, if they do, it could means millions of lost dollars for the film studios.
