Minions front and center in 'Despicable Me 2' trailer

Despite having their own film set for a 2014 release, the Minions are large and in charge in the latest trailer for Despicable Me 2. Well, they're large anyway.

The clip/trailer was released yesterday on Halloween via iTunes Trailers and features a very recognizable music clip from a very popular horror film. It's not so much a traditional trailer so much as a tease and gentle reminder that the sequel is coming out next Summer.

The teaser poster also debuted and you can see it to the right. Overall, it's not surprising that the Minions are being used to help sell the film early on. They are immediately recognizable and they can be used precisely like they are below as additional content that doesn't give away any of the plot from Despicable Me 2.

The clip features some sort of "alien" or larger creature collecting Minions, but at this point, I can't be sure if that was simply an extension of the Halloween motif or an actual plot point from the film. It would certainly be an interesting plot development if an up-and-coming supervillain were kidnapping the Minions to be his his evil henchmen.

I guess we will know more when the official trailer drops in a few months. For now, sit back and enjoy this clip.
