I love technology. That's a given. But one of those wonderful unexpected side effects from the technology revolution is the proliferation of professional quality filming and editing tools to ordinary people.

In the past, if you wanted to film and edit a film, you had to live in Hollywood or have a connection to someone "in the industry." These days, all you have to do is turn on your computer.

With this in mind, the creative brain trust behind The Dark Knight Rises reached out to its fans to help them create a commercial for the upcoming blockbuster film. Along with promotional partner Chrysler, Warner Bros. made available actual footage of the film and the Chrysler 300 to create a cross-promotional 25 second commercial.

As you can imagine, the footage was heavily watermarked and the official rules dictated that you could only use the materials provided by Warner Bros. Everything else was up to the imagination of the entrant.

With over 1,000 entries, I think it's safe to assume that the contest was a success. From now until July 3, you can visit their site ImportedFromGothamCity.com and vote on your favorite submission. The winner, chosen from a combination of audience vote and expert judges, will get to see their commercial on National TV and win a trip to meet director Christopher Nolan.

Your intrepid web site correspondent/aspiring filmmaker (one day) decided to take a stab and you can see the results below. If you feel compelled to help me win, you can always vote up my submission by clicking here and voting on my entry.

You can vote on each entry from 1 to 5 bats naturally and I would appreciate any votes. You can glimpse my entry below or click here and vote on mine and see the rest. The Dark Knight Rises hits theaters on July 20.
