It's funny. The week between Christmas and New Year's is one that is traditionally slow in Hollywood.

The main reason for this is that the studios traditionally used to shut down for that week and enjoy the spoils of their good year. Given the ever-changing landscape of film, I highly doubt that they continue this practice to this day, but it does mark a good time for us to reflect back upon the year that was and look ahead to the year that will be.

As I've mentioned before, 2012 is shaping up to be one of the best years at the box office in recent memory, if not ever, but you know 2011 wasn't too shabby either. It's hard to really put a label on 2011. It wasn't the year of the sequel (although there were many) and it wasn't the year of the comic book movies (although likewise there were several), no 2011 is that rare vintage that will stick out from the others more for the lack of a single defining theme than for any film that was released this year.

That being said, I saw a great deal of films this year and while they weren't all great (or even watchable), there were more than a few that I hope will be in the rotation for many years to come. But before Tim and I get to the business at hand of rehashing and forecasting, I thought it would be great to share Kees van Dijkhuizen's "Cinema 2011" video.

As you might recall, I'm a big fan of the Dutch teen's work and his end of the year montages are legendary in their own right. So, without further ado, here is Kees' video of the year that was 2011.
