'Prometheus' looks epic, familiar in trailer

So, the big question about Prometheus ahead of its June 8, 2012 theatrical release is whether it is or isn't a prequel to 1979's Alien. Today's trailer debut only helps to muddy the waters even further.

There are some very direct connections to Ridley Scott's iconic film and many indirect connections. The bottom line is that despite what Scott and company say officially, the trailer feels like this is a prequel Alien.

Maybe Ridley Scott didn't want to draw comparisons to Star Wars and its failure to hit a grand slam with all fans of the original trilogy of films. Whether the later trilogy of Star Wars is good enough to stand on its own or not, the bottom line is that they were tasked with the near impossible feat of having to try and live up to the original trilogy.

So, perhaps Scott didn't want Prometheus to have to bear that burden or maybe it really is a unique film that only tiptoes in the world of 330{Alien, either way, the trailer looks pretty epic in scope and I, for one, can't wait to check it out in theater.
