If you're a fan of the force and an Apple fan boy, then today is like double Christmas for you. Fox Mobile Entertainment unleashed a free Star Wars iPad app that will provide users with "a sampling of bonus materials featured in the Blu-ray collection, including never-before-seen content sourced from the Lucasfilm Archives such as matte paintings and concept art; prop, maquette and costume turnarounds; supplementary interviews with cast and crew; and more."

Fear not Apple iPhone users, the app will roll out to you in August. As for the Droid users out there, I think it's safe to say that George Lucas considers you to be on the Dark Side as this is an Apple exclusive app. Tim and I both lamented that we wished we had iPads so we could get some first-hand information for you, but we've got the next best thing.

We put the call out via our twitter feed and @packaok answered the call with some first hand experience. According to @packaok, "the videos are all behind the scenes stuff, 3-6 mins each, 2 per film. All is brand new, never released before. No deleted scenes."

Man, I can't wait until next month so that we can play with this app ourselves on our iPhones. Until then, we can salivate along with the rest of you over the official screen shots below. If you have an iPad, you can download the app here.

If you've got an iPad and you've played with the app, let us know what you think and what you find. It wouldn't surprise us one bit if a few Bothan spies hid some really cool Easter eggs in the app.

Star Wars Doesn't Like (An)droid

We got this funny little anecdote from new reader Harry. We found it hilarious and just had to share. It's incredibly ironic that the mobile products which licensed their name from George Lucas doesn't have the app.

Aw man! That sucks that the Star Wars app is only available for Apple products. If I would have know that when I was shopping for phones, I would have told my girlfriend with a waive of my hand, "These aren't the droids you're looking for." And I would have gotten the iphone rather than the droid. Lol
