You might remember back right after the Super Bowl, when I had a tepid response at best to the Super Bowl movie commercials. One of the ones that I said showed some promise was for Captain America: The First Avenger. It seems that my words are coming prophetic.

Today, Paramount released the first full-length trailer for Captain America: The First Avenger and as someone who's not a comic book expert, I was intrigued by the trailer. I won't say that I was completely blown away, but it certainly put Captain America among my must-see this Summer and that's really the whole point, no?

In particular, I enjoyed the look and feel of the trailer. As an origin tale, they decided to buck the recent trend of modernizing the origin to the present and stuck to the character's roots in World War II. My comic buddies say that, in particular, Captain America's origin during this time period is significant, but they could have spent the first act in the past and moved to the present, but they opted to keep the entire story in that time period.

Ultimately, the Captain will get to the present in time for next year's The Avengers movie, although I'm not sure if that part will be handled in this year's movie or next year's movie.

Also, what can you say about Tommy Lee Jones' voice over during most of the trailer? The guy can flat out act and his voice is as distinctive as James Earl Jones' voice.

Watch the trailer and let us know what you think. Captain America: The First Avenger hits theaters on July 22, 2011.
