Red band trailer for 'Paul' is out of this world

As many of you know, I already heaped a bunch of praise on Paul back in my sleeper picks for 2011 and nothing has changed to make me waver on my decision. In fact, the release of this red band trailer for the movie just cements my beliefs that this might be the most hilarious movie of the year.

From the collective minds of Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, it's easy to see why this movie has sure-fire hit written all over it. If there was one area in which I had any concern, it would be that the filmmakers were going to tone down their raunchy behavior and make this movie a family friendly affair.

But this movie is a strong R rated flick and this trailer confirms that. In fact, it evokes in me another buddy road trip movie that I enjoyed quite a bit. In fact, I think you'll agree from the pictures below that the similarity might in fact be a bit intentional.

Just change an orangutan for an alien and the image is almost identical. I also enjoyed the Reese's pieces joke which is an obvious call back to E.T.

Watch the trailer (and be forewarned, the red band trailer means that there is plenty of foul language and the like in it) and let us know what you think. Paul hits theaters on March 18.
