Officially, Apollo 17 was the last manned mission to the moon. Since then, many have asked why we haven't returned to the moon. The simple explanation is that the risk outweighed the reward, given that the previous missions were able to conduct adequate exploration and testing.

The answer that conspiracy theorists favor is that there's a real reason that we've never returned to the moon. And those skeptics will surely enjoy Apollo 18.

The movie is presented as actual found footage of a top secret manned mission to the moon that was later wiped from the annals of American history. The reason for the supposed cancellation of Apollo 18 and the rest of the manned moon missions?

Well, the trailer below gives a pretty good indication for their reasoning.

For me, the trailer plays out in equal parts Cloverfield and Alien which is both spooky and crazy. I'll withhold judgment until I see the entire movie, but I don't think I will easily buy the "this really happened" part of Apollo 18, but that doesn't mean it won't be a good scary movie.

What do you think?
