'X-Men: First Class' trailer gets historical

Let's be honest here, shall we? There was such a bad taste left in our mouths after X-Men: The Last Stand that it pretty tainted anything remotely associated with the X-Men.

Was Wolverine really that bad? Well, probably, but it didn't help that the Brett Ratner stench still lingered. As they say, time heals all wounds.

It still remains to be seen whether X-Men: First Class will be able to shake the curse of its predecessors, but the first trailer (seen below) goes a long way in soothing my fears. The trailer does a good job of establishing the story without giving away too many details.

I like centering the story around Kennedy and the infamous Bay of Pigs Cuba missile crisis. I think it's a genius combination of real world events and the emergence of the mutants to a world stage.

Not being a comic book junkie, I couldn't tell you if the story in the movie follows a comic book story arc, but I wouldn't be surprised if it does. Either way, it should translate into an interesting movie.

X-Men: First Class is in session starting June 3, 2011. Tell us what you think of the trailer.
