Once again, we didn't get to go to the annual geek gathering that is San Diego Comic-Con. Once again, we'll act like we're not bitter. (You gotta let us go one of these years, Mom!)

Had we gone, we would been among the first (*sigh*) to see the asembled cast for 2012's Avengers film.

During Saturday evening's big Marvel Studios presentation, they premiered footage from next year's Thor and Captain America movies. But that was quickly trumped by Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury) and his introduction of the entire cast of The Avengers.

They were all there: Clark Gregg as Agent Coulson, Scarlett Johansson as The Black Widow, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, and Chris Evans as Captain America. Tony Stark/Iron Man's Robert Downey Jr. then announced the two newcomers -- Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye and Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/Hulk. Both Renner as archer Hawkeye and Ruffalo as Hulk 3.0 were previously rumored but this was their official coming-out party.

Earlier in the weekend, beloved sci-fi writer-director Joss Whedon announced he would be helming the star-studded affair. His appearance was just monumental as the cast themselves.

The superhero crescendo of The Avengers will have to wait until May 2012. Marvel and Paramount will first build upon the anticipation with Thor next May and Captain America approximately one year from now.

We'll bide our time saving pennies for next year's Comic-Con. That is, if we get permission.

Update... Some videos for ya

Actually these videos show the same thing, just from different vantage points and durations.
