Now that I think of it, my favorite movie genre has to be quirky little comedies. Hey, and if they're poignant or profound, that's good too.

Some of the best that come to mind: Lars and the Real Girl, Smoke Signals, and Away We Go. Actually, one of my favorite movies of all-time -- Groundhog Day -- qualifies for this group also.

Paper Man seems to follow in this vein as well. It stars the great Jeff Daniels as a struggling writer. He's a middle-aged guy who's never quite grown up. His own friend is imaginary -- superhero Captain Excellent, played by Ryan Reynolds.

He establishes a unique relationship with a fractured 17-year-old (Emma Stone). Take a look at this quaint little film:

As you can see, the much underrated Lisa Kudrow is along for the ride as well. The movie was written and directed by husband-and-wife team Kieran and Michele Mulroney. (Kieran's older brother just happens to be Dermot Mulroney.)

What do you think? Do you share my enjoyment of quirky, "sleeper" comedies? If so, what do you think of this movie. Also, what similarly-typed films would you recommend? Let us know.

Paper Man will be in select theaters starting April 23. Honestly, you'll probably have a hard time finding it playing. Stay tuned (or sign up for a notification from us) when it's available on DVD and/or Blu-ray.
