According to various online sources, it seems that Kevin Smith's movie with title issues will finally be called Cop Out. The original screenplay (which is the first movie that Kev has directed in which he didn't also write the screenplay) had the working title of A Couple of Dicks, which a nice play on the slang term for a police officer.

But given that this movie was a major release from Warner Bros. starring mega talent Bruce Willis and hot property Tracy Morgan, you just knew that the movie would never see the light of day with "Dicks" in the title.

The news seemingly broke on Friday with this posting on IMDb that confirms that a trailer for a movie with the title Cop Out is attached to all prints of Sherlock Holmes. Smith had previously stated that the trailer for A Couple of Dicks would be attached to Sherlock Holmes.

And then last night, Smith coyly added fuel to the fire with this tweet: "Via @Momma_Harper "They're not going with 'A Couple of Dicks'? That's such a cop-out" Hm. Has a nice ring to it..." Kevin's words are in bold text.

While this new title is certainly far inferior to the original one in my opinion, it is much better than the one that was bandied about as a potential replacement, A Couple of Cops. I haven't read the script but with all this "Dicks" and "Out" double entendre, I'm beginning to wonder if Bruce and Tracy are partners in more than just the work sense. Hmm...

What do you think of this new title? Are you looking forward to seeing Cop Out on February 26?
