Dr. Horrible and the 'joys' of internet video

I'll admit it, I don't watch a lot of network TV shows. Subsequently I didn't watch Sunday night's Emmy Awards with host Neil Patrick Harris.

Apparently I missed out because I hear NPH was awesome. Thankfully we have little things like YouTube to catch us up on the good parts.

Check out this video from last night's broadcast. Neil appears in his infamous Dr. Horrible character to parody the promise of internet video.

Of course that's Nathan Fillion as Captain Hammer. Horrible co-stars Felicia Day and Simon Helberg also pop in. (Incidentally, the Dr. Horrible Sing-Along Blog is available on DVD.)

NPH (well, Dr. Horrible creator Joss Whedon) points out many of the flaws of watching these online. Of course we laugh because they are the same reasons why feel DVD and Blu-ray are superior to downloading movies and shows.

Yeah, internet video is the future but it's clear to see that the technology is not yet ready for primetime. (Yes, I realize that I contradicted myself by first hyping YouTube and then blasting the very same medium. I'm directing my condemnation toward long-form online movies.)
