It seems that everyone enjoyed the first two installments in this series, so I couldn't sit back and let Tim have all the fun. I'm sure most of you are scratching your head about the inclusion of this particular movie, but I think it will be clear as we progress.

The Friday the 13th series of horror films is the iconic set of gore movies for me. It's the series that introduced me to my life-long obsession with horror movies and Jason Voorhees is the ultimate killer that still haunts my nightmares until this day.

Paramount milked this franchise like no other in the '80s releasing a whopping 8 movies in the decade before giving New Line a crack at the series. This movie was the last Paramount release and some say their worse, but I would argue that it was am ambitious attempt to move the horror genre forward into the next decade.

Sadly, it failed in this attempt and it took seven years before Scream finally succeeded. The Special Edition DVD for Friday The 13th, Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan debuts on Tuesday, but there's one thing lacking from the disc and it's this teaser trailer.

Trivia Answers (Rollover your mouse to view)

  1. If you guessed Kane Hodder, who played Jason in the movie and three other Friday the 13th movie, that would be a good guess. But, if you thought this was a trick question, you were right. Actually, just today Cinematical reported that Hodder revealed for the first time today that he wasn't the masked killer in this trailer. "You can tell it's not me. I would never turn around and stand like that! I hate how he turned around, and he looks kind of small to me, too. I don't know why they didn't wait until we got to New York, but they had to do it while we were still in Vancouver."
  2. Personally, I would have loved to see "Fugeddaboutit" on it, but in actuality the original poster featured Jason slashing his way through an "I Love NY" poster. The New York Tourism Committee saw it and lodged complaints that led to the removal of the famous saying. The first mockups also featured a bloody knife, but later on the blood was removed.
  3. In an obvious nod to the sixth installment of the killer's franchise, the graffiti says "Jason Lives."
  4. Jason throws the cook into the mirror. While we will most likely never see a "Jason vs. Jason" movie, this scene might be as close as we will ever get. The cook was played by Ken Kirzinger, the stunt coordinator on Friday The 13th, Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan. Ken later took up Jason's mask and played the serial killer in Freddy vs. Jason.
  5. Believe it or not, it's not trick photography or an editing trick. That shot was possible because actor Kane Hodder is able to vomit on cue. For the shot, he drank a pitcher of water right before shooting and simply vomited it up on cue.
  6. This is named Lazarus. This is almost assuredly a nod to the Biblical character of Lazarus who is brought back from the dead by Jesus. Jason is brought back from the dead when the ship accidentally moves an electrical cable into contact with Jason's lifeless body.
  7. If you think this is a trick question, you better believe it. If you answered 199 kills, give yourself a fat big kick in the butt because you forgot to take out the kills from the first movie and Friday the 13th, Part V: A New Beginning. In the first movie, all of the bloodshed is done by Jason's mom, Pamela Voorhees. In A New Beginning, Roy, aka Fake Jason, takes up the hockey mask. If you answered, 167 then you would be right according to this site. However, if you answered 154 kills, then you would reign supreme by this site's standard. The bottom line is that short of going through film by film and counting them all, it will be next to impossible to answer. And even then, some kills take place off-screen and the numbers become hazy.
