Forget Avatar, Inception's trailer steals the show

It's no secret around these parts that I'm a huge Christopher Nolan fan. Long before he found mainstream success as the director of The Dark Knight, I was drooling over his work on The Prestige and Memento.

He is certainly a visually stunning director who likes to tackle movies that force the viewers to think for themselves. He's a master story-teller and it's no wonder that Warner Bros. tapped him to helm the re-launch of their Batman franchise.

So, when Nolan made the decision to put off a third Batman for a little known movie called Inception, I was immediately intrigued. What could grab Nolan so much that he had to do this picture first.

If the teaser trailer below is any clue, I think we may have an idea. The only thing we officially know about the movie is the logline that Warner Bros. released in which they say it is "a contemporary sci-fi actioner set within the architecture of the mind."

Looking below, it's more like what The Matrix sequels should have been.

Having seen it, I'm immediately drawn to The Matrix naturally, but also Timur Bekmambetov's planned trilogy of movies, of which Night Watch and Day Watch are already released. In other words, the pool of drool has doubled and then some.

Inception is due out on July 16, 2010, but that date might not be set in stone. It's curious that with a date already picked out that they put "Coming Soon" at the end of the trailer. Could it be that the move of Shutter Island, which also stars Leonardo DiCaprio, to February of 2010 is having them rethink the release date?

Time will only tell, but I will say that I can't wait to see this movie. It's easily at the top of my "must watch" list of 2010. What did you think of the trailer?
