The nice thing about having Comic Con on the West Coast and working a little farther East is being able to get some real work done before all hell breaks loose out there. So, while the geekiest of the geeks sleep off their Red Bull hangovers, allow me to start off today's update with a little neat observation.

I know that 2009 is being called the year of Twitter, but it's events like Comic Con that truly demonstrate the power and effectiveness of such a network. When you have a great big group of people together at once, it's cool to have an instant way to reach the masses as it were.

And since we're all basically just slightly more evolved lemmings, it's fun to tell us what to do. I've been a part of this phenomenon on many levels whether it was at a conference where we raised money via Twitter or like at this year's Comic Con where the studios are actively embracing Social Media fully for the first time.

Disney is having a little tea party and to get the details you have to follow @ImportantDate on Twitter to get all the details. Sony isn't any slouch in the Twitter game either (as an aside @urlgrl is a great follow one that truly gets it at the major studios) and their viral prize giving from @TheIHC as part of the promotion for 2012 is great.

Well, the Warner panel is about to start which means that news will start pouring in via Twitter any time now.

Well, it seems that news is a little slow out on yonder coast. Could it be that the Warner panel isn't as awesome as it was last year now that Watchmen is out? Speaking of Watchmen, tonight should be an interesting little event in the history of Blu-ray. Director Zack Snyder is hosting a community viewing of the director's cut of the movie. Basically, it's a live commentary with the director of the film and that's pretty darn cool if you ask me.

Now they need to bring Showgirls to DVD with live lap dances or stripteases. It'd certainly put it back in the news. Speaking of material not fit for the younger audience, while we wait for some real information out of San Diego, I thought I'd share a little teaser trailer making its way around the Internet today.

It's for a little movie called Hot Tub Time Machine and while much like Showgirls the title sort of spells it all out, the cast is amazing and I think you'll agree that this trailer is hilarious.

The only caveat is that it is a red band trailer, so if you're not of age or find filthy language offensive or want to go through life never having heard John Cusack utter the F word twice in 5 seconds, I wouldn't click on the trailer below. For everyone else, enjoy!

UPDATE: When stars speak at live events with an audience full of Twitter ready thumbs you know something is going to leak. Gary Oldman upstaged the entire Warner Bros. panel when he was asked a question about the next Batman movie, he said that they are going to film it next year.

Oldman was there to promote the film The Book of Eli, also by Warner Bros. I'm sure the higher ups at the WB will take him aside after the panel and there will be a clarification or retraction of the comment, but it's possible that the new Batman movie might already be on the books for shooting next year with a Summer 2011 release? Stay tuned!

In other news, the Jonah Hex portion of the WB panel has started which means that Megan Fox is currently surrounded by thousands of men with one singular thought... "dude, if Shia LaBeouf can get her in those Transformers movies, I so have a chance."

Or something like that.

This is another off Comic Con bit but I just had to share the train wreck that Jake Lloyd has become. In case you've blocked it out like apparently Jake has, he played Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace. Although apparently, he does occasionally watch Phantom Menace in the company of "gorgeous" women. FilmDrunk tipped us off.

Enjoy the rage below, although if he could learn to channel that anger, he might be able to enjoy a long career playing serial killers.

If you're following the Comic Con from home as well, please send us the news bits you think we should include. Or give us your thoughts on what we post here.
