Are Eliza Dushku and Alyssa Milano getting the call for 'Ghostbusters 3'?

"Who you gonna call? GHOSTBUSTERS!"

Man, the Ray Parker Jr. song still echoes and vibrates through the fabric of my youth. 1984 was a pivotal year for me and not simply because I entered double digits in age for the rest of the my life, but the Tigers won the World Series and Ghostbusters started a lifetime love affair with the cinema.

So, the news coming out recently that Ghostbusters 3 is not only moving forward, but that most of the original cast is involved gave me plenty nights of ectoplasm-filled dreams. Now, Dan Aykroyd spills more dirt to the L.A. Times blog "Hero Complex" about the new ghost-busting adventures.

"I think we're going to be in production fairly soon. We could be in production by winter." Although, he does caution that "at any second everything could blow up."

So, what details did he give up about the new movie? Well, he did confirm that Sigourney Weaver is a go to join original Ghostbusters Aykroyd, Bill Murray, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson. The story will indeed be about the next generation of Ghostbusters, possibly signaling the start of a new franchise for Sony.

"I'd like it to be a passing-of-the-torch movie. Let's revisit the old characters briefly and happily and have them there as family but let's pass it on to a new generation."

And what names did he throw out to be part of the new five member next generation team? None other than Eliza Dushku and Alyssa Milano, who lent her voice to the Ghostbusters video game released earlier this year.

"I think they're amazing and I'm excited about the whole idea of getting this done."

So, this is the part I like the most. Here's the part of the story where I get to justify spending hours, er I mean only minutes, of each day following my Twitter accounts. As this news broke last night and I happen to stalk, er follow, both of the actresses mentioned by Aykroyd, it was interesting to see them share a couple tweets about the news.

From @Alyssa_Milano:
"@RugbyNoddy Can't speak for @ElizaPatricia (Hi, pretty lady)but this is the first I'm hearing of Ghostbusters 3. Did the VO in the game tho."

A few short hours later @ElizaPatricia (Eliza Dushku) responded:
"Ghost-rumor-buster in a big way @Alyssa_milano (hey girlene) it's nuthin' I know of."

And just like that, my Twitter existence is work approved! So, it seems that neither actress has been contacted about it, but they also didn't dismiss the idea of being in the movie out-of-hand. So, perhaps we'll get a casting confirmation tweet in a few weeks.

Until then, I'll be patrolling the Twitterverse, just like my job description dictates.
